Year After Year

Yes, Susie,  I love this quote because I’ve found it be true. The returning to the same subjects and themes over and over. Every year I photograph the blooming flowers and shrubs of spring, but always it is the fallen petals that draw me close. Not the delicate buds or the perfect blooms, but the fallen petals. The flowers nearly spent. Petals with edges curled and the sepia tones of decay. At first, I feel disappointed that I have taken these same floral portraits yet again. Another parade of camellias, peonies, tulips and lilacs. But when I live with these pictures, I get a sense of what I am really seeking. Some sort of validation that the natural order of things is beautiful, from beginning to end. And, if I am honest, I think I am seeking my place in the world as woman who is aging.
